Dr. Dimitrios Karaferis brings over 20 years of professional experience in the fields of economics, accounting, and management studies. He works for the Hellenic Republic at the Ministry of Finance, while in the past he has worked at Evangelismos General Hospital, which is the largest hospital in Greece, as well as at the 1st Health Region of Attica.

He holds a Master’s degree in Strategic Management and earned his PhD in Health Economics with a specialization in Human Resources and Organizational Behavior from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His commitment to lifelong learning and research led him to a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Piraeus, where he is dedicated to leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital tools to enhance the efficiency of healthcare professionals, elevate patient care standards, and modernize the healthcare system in Greece, through transformative strategies in healthcare delivery and administration.

His research interests lie at the use of new technologies, digital transformation, improving outcomes through data-driven decision-making, systemic analysis, evaluation of information systems, systems’ sustainability. He has also worked on research projects related to statistical and econometric models for estimating effectiveness in health services, patient-centered care, workforce management.

Through collaborations with Greece’s top leading universities, Dr. Karaferis has contributed many high-impact research publications in reputed journals.
