Maria Raikou



Maria RaikouMaria Raikou is Professor of Health Economics at the Department of Economics at the University of Piraeus. Maria holds a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, and an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Health Economics from City University, London, UK.
Before joining the Department he worked as a Research Fellow and Visiting Lecturer at the London School of Economics (LSE Health and Social Care, Department of Social Policy, London, UK). She has worked as a researcher in the field of health economics at the University of Oxford (Health Economics Research Centre, Oxford University, Oxford, UK), at City University (Department of Economics, London, UK) and at the London School of Economics (LSE Health and Social Care, London, UK). At LSE he taught Health Economics and Statistical Methods in Health Care Economic Evaluation.

Additionally, he has worked as a consultant for the UK Department of Health, the UK National Audit Office, the UK National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), and the pharmaceutical industry. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Onassis Cardiology Center from 2015 to 2018.

She maintains a scientific collaboration with the Department of Health Policy of the London School of Economics and Political Science as a Research Associate & Visiting Lecturer.

Her research interests focus on statistical and econometric models for estimating costs and effectiveness in health services as applied to economic evaluation, econometric models for analyzing the diffusion of medical technology, and analyzing the relationship between hospital care costs and quality of care. health services.

She has published research papers in international journals such as: Journal of Health Economics, Health Economics, Lancet, British Medical Journal, and economic reports, including reports for the UK Department of Health, the UK National Audit Office and NICE, in the field of economic evaluation of health programs.
